Quarantining and Isolation Information

COVID-19 Close Contact

Faculty, staff and students should stay home when they are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and test.

If you test positive, please report this to the following:

Upon reporting a positive test, you must isolate for a minimum of 24 hours and can return after being fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication and if your symptoms are improving.

Information for Close Contacts to a COVID-19 Case

Take the following actions:

Close contacts who have or develop symptoms of COVID-19 infection, regardless of vaccination status or previous infection, must stay home away from others for a minimum of 24 hours and test for COVID-19. Notify the Health Center if you test positive.

Asymptomatic close contacts should take the following actions to lower the risk of spreading COVID-19 to others:

  1. Wear a well-fitting mask around others through Day 10, especially in indoor settings.
  2. Test for COVID-19 between Days 3-5 after the last date of exposure.

For instructors who have a positive student in class:

Please report this to healthcenter@smc.edu. An SMC nurse will reach out to the student and instructor to discuss next steps. The nurse will email all students in the class alerting them that there was a person who tested positive in their class and provide information on testing and quarantine (see above for guidance on close contacts, testing, quarantining and isolation).
